MINNIE LEE BELL was born on December 27, 1941, in Greenwood, Mississippi to James Parker and Carri e Evans Bell. Minnie was the 4th of thirteen children and always had natural charm, patience, and a caring nature. These characteristics would prove to be essential in her chosen career.
Minnie and her family later moved from Greenwood to Saint Louis, Missouri where she attended O'Fallon Tech to obtain her License of Practical Nursing (LPN). As a nurse, she worked for many beloved and historic medical facilities including Homer G. Phillips, City Number One Hospital, and the Veteran's Administration Hospital. Minnie also worked as a private duty nurse where she lovingly cared for and befriended many of her clients. Minnie retired in 2003 from Lutheran Senior Services. However, even then she was still a wealth of knowledge and a great help to friends and family members who were sick or in need of care.
Minnie loved being part of a big family. She married Mack Spence and had eight children of her own. As a mother, the lessons that Minnie made sure she passed on to her children were the value of love, compassion, hard work, family, and living your faith. Minnie Spence was a dedicated Christian who helped all that she could and expected nothing in return.
Minnie was preceded in death by her father, James Parker; mother, Carrie Bell; husband, Mack Spence; sister, Evelina Graham; brothers, King Bell, Mason Bell, and Robert Bell; daughter, Carrie Terry; grandsons, Robert Walker and Thomas Spence, Jr.; and great granddaughter, Jaylee Adams.
Here to cherish her memory are her children, Charles Spence, Kelly Spence, Arthella Spence, Future Spence, Thomas Spence, Jerry Spence, and Victoria Spence; siblings, Samuel Parker, Yvonne Bell, Myra Jones, and Carrie Young; plus 38 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
