Reflections of Chuckie’s Time With Us
Chuckie White was born July 2, 1968, to the union of Rena and Willie Mayes in Saint Louis, Missouri. He was the youngest child of this union. Chuckie was preceded in death by both parents; four brothers, JD White, Anthony Mayes, Willie Mayes, Jr., and Willie Earl White; and two sisters, Erma Peterson and Juanita Harvey of Benton Harbor, Michigan.
Chuckie was educated in the Saint Louis Public School system and graduated from Vashon High School. He attended Meramec College and later transferred to Arizona State University on a baseball scholarship. Chuckie was an avid sportsman, and baseball was his passion and first love. He shared his love of baseball with his dad, brothers, and friends. He played on the Wildcats with family and loved teammates and was inducted into the National Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.
Chuckie was raised in a God-fearing home and professed his love for Christ at a young age. He learned the value of a good work ethic early in life, shining shoes as a little boy at places like the Cardinals Stadium. Later in life, he used this ethic as a general contractor, owning several businesses. Chuckie was joined in holy matrimony to Melissa Day in 1991. To this union two children were born, Churena and Daylan White , which he referred to as “the best thing that ever happened to him”. He was also a step-father to Sherry Flowers Boyd. Chuckie was the proud grandfather of two boys, Daylan White Jr. and Rylan White. Chuckie’s grandsons were his pride and joy and brought a constant source of happiness to him- He loved them very much.
Chuckie was a loving person and made everyone around him feel special. His big heart and radiant personality made an impact on those he loved, those he knew, and even strangers he came across.
Chuckie leaves to cherish his memory his children Churena and Daylan White; two grandsons Daylan White Jr., and Rylan White; six siblings, Peggy Eddie and Virginia Williams of Benton Harbor Michigan, Tosca Redden, Terrill Gurlly, Grayling Weekly, and Andre White of Saint Louis, MO; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Chuck, as he was known by his friend’s family and coworkers, departed this life on March 24th, 2023.
