DIANA MARIE HUGHES LEWIS was born November 17, 1958, in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the eldest of five children born to Henry Forest Hughes, Sr., and Dorothy Mae Hughes. Her sister, Stephanie Denise Hughes, preceded her in death.
She attended several elementary schools in various states due to her father being an active member in the military. The family relocated often. After moving back to St. Louis, Diana attended and graduated from Central High School. She later enrolled in Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and graduated in 1982.
Diana was baptized in Jesus' name and filled with the Holy Ghost at Lively Stone Church of God under the leadership of the late Bishop P.L. Scott. She relocated to Los Angeles, California where she attended Apostolic Faith Home Assembly Church under the leadership of Elder G. Grady Benton; she served there as the Minister of Music. Diana and her family returned to St. Louis and reunited with the Lively Stone Church of God. She became very active in the music ministry as choir member, lead singer, choir director and later, a member of The Golden Voices, an anointed female singing group in the church. She was a prayer warrior who believed in the power of prayer. Many times, you could find her after church huddled up with someone praying. She would pull her vial of blessed oil out in a second and pray until the anointing fell.
Diana also served over 10 years as treasurer of the Women's Auxiliary under the leadership of the late Mother Phyllis Scott. She worked diligently with the Women's Auxiliary planning fundraisers, conferences, and anything else to advance the women in Lively Stone. She was a phenomenal cook and was found many Sundays preparing breakfast and dinners alongside Mother Scott.
With a heart for women affected by domestic violence, Diana was instrumental in forming "Women of Grace," an organization that fell under the umbrella of GIA (God is Able) Community Development Corporation. She consistently volunteered her services by attending workshops, creating support groups and helping women who came through the program.
Her most recent roles in the church under the leadership of Bishop Lee Scott, was being appointed to the Pastoral Cabinet as well as the Intercessory Prayer Team. She was dedicated and faithfully served these positions until her health failed.
Diana was loved by many. Her co-workers of over 25 years at Travelers Insurance Company experienced her outgoing personality, her kind spirit, and her willingness to be a true team player.
On Saturday July 24, 2021, at 5:30 a.m., Diana gracefully made her transition from earth to glory.
She leaves to cherish her memories, one daughter, Nicole Denise Cathrine; one granddaughter, Natasha Denise Ryland; father, Henry F. (Suzanne) Hughes, Sr.; mother, Dorothy (Nathaniel) Heavens; four brothers, Henry F. Hughes, Jr., Marcus (Cassandra) Hughes, Stephen (Alison) Smith, Aaron (Elizabeth) Hughes; one sister, Christine Jarmon; four God-children, Jaymiee Shepherd, Isaiah and Quentin Farquharson and Nala Rachel; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, church family and friends.
